What is CPAP headgear?

CPAP headgear is the part of a CPAP mask that holds the frame and cushion against your face. It is usually made from soft, breathable material that is adjustable, stretchy, or both. Almost all CPAP masks allow you to replace components like headgear without having to buy an entirely new mask.

Is CPAP headgear interchangeable between masks?

It’s important to buy headgear that matches both the manufacturer and mask system of your current mask. Even mask systems with similar designs, including those from the same manufacturer, may not have interchangeable headgear.

How often should I replace my CPAP headgear?

Most CPAP headgear has an expected lifespan of six to twelve months. Your mask’s manufacturer may also provide a more detailed replacement schedule, which can usually be found online or in the user manual.

Does insurance cover CPAP headgear?

Most insurance providers, including Medicare, offer coverage for CPAP supplies like headgear. However, the terms of that coverage — such as how often they will reimburse you for new headgear — can vary significantly from provider to provider. Sleep Doctor does not currently accept insurance payments, but we’ll provide you with the documentation you’ll need to submit to your provider for reimbursement.
