How it Works

The AYO Wearable works by lighting up and directly exposing your eyes to light therapy through a frame you wear like you would wear glasses. Most people want to wear their AYO Wearable in the morning, to mimic natural sunlight exposure. It's ideal to wear the AYO Wearable for 20-minute sessions. You can put the AYO Wearable on, then engage in other activities.

Because the AYO Wearable frame doesn't contain lenses like glasses do, you can wear it at the same time you're wearing glasses. However, AYO recommends taking your glasses off while using the AYO Wearable for best results. You can turn the AYO Wearable on directly through the device or, if you've signed up for the optional AYO app, through the app on your smartphone.

Light therapy describes the practice of strategically receiving exposure to light at certain times in an effort to positively impact one's circadian rhythms and health. Research has found that light therapy effectively improves sleep problems.

The AYO Wearable has been certified for photobiological safety according to the IEC 62471 standard. IEC standards are set by the International Electrotechnical Commission, an international non-profit organization that sets safety standards for electrical products. The AYO Wearable does not emit light that may harm the eyes, such as ultraviolet (UV) and infrared light.

AYO recommends using the AYO Wearable daily, for 20 to 40 minutes. Most people will want to use the AYO Wearable in the morning or earlier in the day to mimic sunlight and entrain their circadian rhythm to their environment. That said, the best time of day to use the Wearable depends on your unique body and health goals. The optional AYO app can help you determine when and for how long to use the AYO Wearable.

You do not need the AYO app or a smartphone to use the AYO Wearable. You can use the Wearable on its own. The AYO app is an additional option available. 

Sleep Doctor sells the AYO Wearable, but not AYO app subscriptions. If you want to also purchase the AYO app, you'll need to do so through the AYO website. The AYO app can be used to control the AYO Wearable and provide information and personalized recommendations related to circadian health.
