The At-Home Sleep Apnea Study from Sleep Doctor is a disposable sleep apnea test you may administer at home. Each device consists of finger, wrist, and chest sensors that monitor seven different metrics associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). If worn properly, the test can determine whether you qualify for an OSA diagnosis after just one night. WatchPAT One may be a more convenient alternative to an overnight sleep study, the traditional method for testing people for OSA symptoms.

To receive the test, you'll need to submit some assessment forms and schedule an online appointment with a licensed physician. This helps determine if you meet the diagnostic criteria for OSA. If the test confirms you have OSA symptoms, you'll meet with a sleep coach to discuss treatment and other follow-up steps. The test is disposable. You must be 18 years of age to take this test.

  • Chest, wrist, and finger sensors measure peripheral arterial tone, heart rate, blood oxygen, actigraphy, body position, snoring, and chest motion
  • Testers receive an AHI score in their follow-up email
  • Those who meet diagnostic criteria for OSA after testing may be prescribed PAP therapy
  • Unopened tests may be returned within 60 days

We recommend an at-home sleep study for:

  • People who frequently snore or wake up gasping for air
  • Those who suspect they have sleep apnea but wish to forgo traditional polysomnography

Some people who take our at-home sleep test experience anxiety during the night, which can make it hard to fall asleep and lead to inaccurate results. However, we're confident you'll be more comfortable and relaxed in your own bed than if you participated in an overnight sleep study at a sleep center.

For most people, the test can gather enough information after one night – even if you are nervous and experience sleep disruptions. If you sleep 2.5 hours or less, you should consider retaking the sleep test.

The WatchPAT features a wrist sensor, pulse oximeter, and chest sensor. The device uses three points of contact – the wrist, finger, and neck – to collect data for seven key sleep apnea metrics.

The device measures central and obstructive sleep apnea events, true sleep time, snoring, breathing rates, oxygen saturation levels, heart rate, your body's position, and how much time you spend in each sleep stage.

Designed for comprehensive results, our sleep test helps your doctor make an informed diagnosis and therapy recommendations. The WatchPAT's sensors send data directly to a doctor via your cell phone's Bluetooth.

If you opt for an overnight study at a sleep center, expect to pay anywhere from $500 to $3,000 for your stay.

At-home sleep tests are much more affordable by comparison. Our test costs $189 and includes a virtual consultation with a board-certified sleep specialist to make sure you are a candidate for a sleep study.

Anyone seeking a sleep apnea diagnosis has two options: an overnight sleep study at a sleep lab, or at-home test.

Most center-based sleep studies are conducted over the course of one to two nights. At-home tests are faster and more convenient. Keep in mind that both types of tests require a doctor's prescription.

Sleep studies are used to monitor your sleep patterns. Doctors use the study's results to diagnose insomnia, sleep apnea, and other sleep disorders.

CPAP machines and face masks are federally regulated medical devices in the United States, so you'll need a prescription for these components – both of which are essential for CPAP therapy. You can obtain a prescription by completing a sleep study or test, then receiving a sleep apnea diagnosis from a board-certified physician.

    Simple and effective

I was hesitant to try this at first versus and in-lab sleep study, but it was just as effective for me. I had some trouble falling asleep due to being hooked up to equipment, but it would have been like that in a lab, and without the comfort of my own bed. I admittedly didn't get a ton of sleep that night, but the test collected more than enough data to share sufficient results. My sleep consultation with the specialist was super informative! Would definitely recommend this for someone who does not want to or doesn't have time to do a lab study!

    Easy and Efficient

Was doubtful whether this would deliver as explained in the introductory information. Once I received the monitor, it was simple to apply. I appreciated taking this test at home rather than having to go to a sleep lab. The information from my test was exactly what I was looking for and the Respiratory Therapist whom I met with to review my results was excellent. Thank you so much for bringing this to the public.

    Great and detailed study

I had the at home sleep study and was amazing at the level of detail that was provided in the results. After having been at a sleep clinic in Switzerland (with no AC) this was wonderful to have it at home. And I learned a lot more from this study - though in the end, they both indicated pretty much the same thing.

Still better to have it for a 10th of the price and in the comfort of ones own bed.

    Easy to use!

This at home device was super easy to use. I was aware of it during the night but the at home experience definitely painted a more accurate picture of my sleeping pattern than a clinic visit would have. 10/10 recommend!

    Comprehensive, honest, low-pressure

Very happy with the sleep study, particularly the follow-up review. The study itself was easy: wear a thingy for one night, sync with my phone, done. Didn't even need to return the device.

The follow-up study was particularly great, though. I was a bit concerned there was going to be pressure to conveniently find a diagnosis, which - surprise! - could be addressed by buying their products. However, it didn't really feel that way. The consultant went over the data, explained their analysis and then, yes, showed which products would address the identified issues. But I didn't feel pressure to buy them, and he didn't keep me on asking for a decision. Further, as my case was identified as mild, he also made a point of recommending against more intrusive treatment, like a CPAP.

All in all it felt very honest and comprehensive. Of course, I have no way to know whether the data was in any way skewed, but subjectively I think it was handled in a way consistent with integrity. I would not hesitate to recommend the service to others.

Sleep Doctor's sleep study was a breeze!

So easy and fast to get my results. Didn't have to go sleep in an unfamiliar place. Getting to sleep in my own bed was huge, and I think gives more accurate results. Package arrives in the mail in a few days, you follow the simple directions to use it for one night, then they contact you to set up your debrief with one of their certified people. They give you an overview of their findings and their recommendations, which you can choose to follow or do your own thing. Highly recommend the test!

Not to Hard to set up

This was not too hard setting up, but I'm glad I watched the video on line.

It let me know that you CAN set this up so you don't have to do it right before you go to bed!

I am technically challenged, so I was pleased I could do what needed to be done.
