What are CPAP supplies?
CPAP supplies are the replaceable parts used with CPAP machines and masks. They include equipment such as tubing, as well as filters for your CPAP machine, humidifier water chambers, CPAP mask components, and more. CPAP machines and complete CPAP masks are not usually considered CPAP supplies.
Are CPAP supplies compatible between brands or styles?
Most CPAP supplies, such as machine filters and mask components, are specific to the manufacturer and make of your CPAP machine or mask. Standard tubing is compatible with almost all CPAP machines and masks, but you should follow recommendations from your CPAP machine’s manufacturer if it requires proprietary tubing, or if you’re interested in heated tubing.
How often should I replace my CPAP supplies?
Each CPAP component has a different lifespan. Your machine or mask’s manufacturer will likely supply you with a replacement schedule, but the following guidelines apply to most CPAP supplies: - Silicone CPAP mask cushions and nasal pillows should be replaced every one to three months, while memory foam cushions should be replaced monthly - Most CPAP mask frames and headgear have an expected lifespan of six to twelve months - CPAP tubing should replaced every three months -Humidifier water chambers should be replaced every six months - Most disposable CPAP filters need to be replaced every two weeks to three months, while washable CPAP filters usually last up to six months.
Do I need a prescription to purchase CPAP supplies?
Unlike CPAP machines and complete CPAP masks, most replacement CPAP supplies can be bought without a prescription. For example, stand-alone CPAP humidifiers require a prescription, while replacement water chambers for the humidifier can be bought over the counter.
Are CPAP supplies covered by insurance?
Many insurance providers offer coverage for CPAP supplies, though policies can differ significantly depending on your provider. Most insurance providers only cover supplies bought according to their in-house schedule, which usually — though not always — reflects the general replacement guidelines for CPAP supplies. Sleep Doctor does not currently accept insurance payments. However, we will provide you with the paperwork you will need to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
How can I save money on CPAP supplies?
Since CPAP supplies need to be replaced according to a regular schedule, one easy way to save money is by signing up for Sleep Doctor’s Subscribe and Save 15% service. Depending on the product, you can choose to have it re-delivered every three, six, or twelve months. Using a subscription can also help ensure that you always replace your CPAP supplies on time.
